STOWMARKET GOLFER LAYS CLAIM TO LONGEST PAR-THREE ACE IN ENGLAND

Ambitious golfer rewarded for long drive

David Munro scored a hole-in-one on the longest par-three in England to be rewarded with a limited-edition BOSS watch as recognition for the achievement.

Munro, 60, from Stowmarket, scored his monster ace on the feared 250-yard, par-three fourth at Stowmarket GC – widely acknowledge as the country’s longest – and the 12-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1 Club and a specially-commissioned, commemorative timepiece.

But he’s still got a long way to go to beat last year’s record for the longest ace, a 364-yard par-four.

He said: “I had started the round seven, seven, five, so things could only get better. I took out my three-wood, relaxed and hit a beauty down the middle.

"My playing partners and I saw the ball bounce and roll onto the green, but we lost sight of it. When we arrived at the green, to my complete surprise, the ball was in hole.

"This was my first hole-in-one and - I am led to believe - only the second one ever scored on this hole during a competition.”
